About this place

Naaktstrand Domburg is a clothing-optional bathing location in Gemeente Middelburg, Zeeland, the Netherlands. Dutch naturism has been organised since 1930 under the Nederlandse Naturisten Federatie (NNF), the national federation, which coordinates a network of beaches, lakes, and clubs across all twelve provinces. The Netherlands has more naturist federation members per capita than almost any other country in Europe. Informal naturism also has wide social acceptance — particularly at inland lakes and rivers — and is strongly represented on the North Sea coast (Castricum, Texel, Goeree-Overflakkee) and in the freshwater recreation areas of Friesland, Zeeland, and the Randstad.

Dutch law contains no specific anti-nudity statute. The general public-order framework (Openbare Orde) applies the same intent-based test as most Western European jurisdictions — non-sexual nudity at established naturist locations is outside the statute's reach. For the broader legal context, see our public nudity laws guide.

Etiquette & ground rules

Respect the established naturist character of the location: be discreet, avoid photography, and follow the lead of regulars. The Netherlands has both formally-designated NNF-affiliated sites and informally-established 'gedoogd' (tolerated) naturist sections — staying within the naturist zone matters socially and legally. Always carry a towel for shared seating. Dutch naturist beaches are year-round in spirit but realistically seasonal for swimming (June through September); cycling access is common and many sites are reachable by fietspad (cycle path).
