Vama Veche Beach
Vama Veche is the most famous beach in Romania — a small village at the very southern tip of the Romanian Black Sea coast, hard against the Bulgarian border. The village of 2 Mai (named for May 2nd) sits a few kilometres north of Vama Veche on the southern Romanian Black Sea coast. It shares Vama Veche's counter-cultural history — both were favoured by artists and intellectuals during the communist era — but has a quieter, more residential character. The beach at 2 Mai is a long sandy strip with naturist use along its southern end, transitioning toward the wilder coastal strip running south to Vama Veche. The cliff-backed stretch between the two villages is among the most dramatic scenery on the Romanian coast. 2 Mai is a better choice for visitors seeking quiet naturism without the summer festival crowds that descend on Vama Veche.
